- Golden Krust lists sorrel on its menu as a holiday drink. Availability varies by store, so call your local one: Utica Ave, Brooklyn, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Lawrence, Long Island, and Bronx locations in the directory.
- Making your own? Look for dried sorrel at Caribbean groceries such as Labay Market on Nostrand Ave.
Spiced bun
- Golden Krust and Royal Caribbean Bakery both sell spiced bun, the dark, fruity sweet bread.
Guyanese Christmas: pepperpot and garlic pork
- Sybil's Bakery & Restaurant, 132-17 Liberty Ave, Richmond Hill. Ready-to-eat pepperpot.
- Little Guyana Restaurant & Lounge, 111-05 Liberty Ave, Richmond Hill. Garlic pork is on the menu.
- Cooking at home? The West Indian groceries along Liberty Ave between 123rd and 125th Streets carry Caribbean vegetables and staples.
Tips
- Order black cake by early December, and ask about shipping cut-offs if it's going out of state.
- Ham, pastelles and soup joumou: we're still collecting reliable spots. Tell us where you buy yours and we'll add it free.
- Prices, stock and hours change in the holidays, so call before you go.
- Sending some home? Cake travels well, but meat and dairy need permits in Jamaica. Read sending a barrel home for Christmas.
